Settling
in
We encourage parents and carers to spend time at the
beginning of each session to settle their child at one of the activities
having registered with the adult at the door. ‘Free Flow’ outdoor play
commences as soon as dropping off is completed.
Busy
Time
During the session children will be involved in specific
tasks as suitable to their needs and stages of development. It is our aim
that children will have extended periods of time to become deeply involved
in learning.
Family
Time
We implement the statutory 'Key Person Approach' as detailed in the Early
Years Foundation Stage 2007 through the use of Family Groups.
Family time is an important part of our sessions and takes
place everyday. Children work in small groups with their family group leader
and are offered planned opportunities for stories, songs, problem solving, speaking
and listening activities and circle games. As well as building confidence,
Family Time offers opportunities for children to develop their
concentration, confidence and speaking and listening skills.
In
addition the organisation of children into smaller groups provides valuable
opportunities for Family Leader to build close, professional relationships
with parents and carers and ensures that information about learning,
development and care needs can be exchanged upon a regular basis.

Multi-lingual children
It is important that home
language of multi-lingual learners is given respect and seen
as an asset, rather than barriers to learning. Children who are allowed to use
their language at home and in the setting seem to make better progress in
the language they are acquiring. Multi-lingual children also enrich the
learning experiences of the other children by providing firsthand
experiences of different language in use.
